I am struck by how much easier life can be as I read the book Effortless: Make It Easier to Do What Matters Most. The author, Greg McKeown, also wrote the International Best Sellerf Essentialism.
What I love most about his latest release is the Idea and many examples that illustrate how you can find an easier path to what is important without pushing yourself harder.
The truth is that the harder we push, the less likely we’ll do essential activities consistently, as McKeown posited in his book. Conversely, it’s easy to do things that we enjoy consistently because we look forward to them. So why not pair these two things together–what you look forward to and essential activities? McKeown offers many creative ideas for pairing the enjoyable and essential that make his book fun and easy to read.
I’m one of those people with a work ethic built on the belief that progress requires hard work. I’ve helped hundreds of people with their health. Yet, I reached a place where I felt drained and depleted and asked myself how can I make essential activities simple, easy, and fun?
Simple examples of pairing things that you look forward to with essential activities are watching a favorite movie or show or listening to music, an audiobook, or a podcast while you walk or run on a treadmill, or do a task that you find tedious.
How can you turn an essential task this week into one that you enjoy and that inspires and motivates you?
