Thanksgiving season is upon us! It is a time for family, friends, food, and giving thanks. This blog post will provide you with tips on how to enjoy your Thanksgiving meal this holiday season with no regrets!
A great tool to follow for planning your Thanksgiving meal (and any meal!) is MyPlate. It is the government initiative to help build a healthy, sustainable eating style into every diet. Its goal is to make it easy to make sure that you are getting the right balance of nutrients in every meal.
Following this infographic for your Thanksgiving meal will ensure that you are eating a holistic meal and not missing out on any food group. The MyPlate website also has other great easy to follow infographics and tips sheets to check out when you get the chance.
Another tip that will lead to success this holiday season is making space for leftovers. We tend to over indulge at meals for a variety of reasons. It may be because you are in a social setting and lose track of how much you have eaten or it may be because of the fear of leftovers. At Thanksgiving, these two can collide. Start with a small plate. Eat what is on it and ask yourself whether or not you are hungry and if you want more. You may find that you are actually full!
Many studies have been done that found that we overeat because we want to finish what is our on our plates. It is a fair argument that you do not want food to go to waste, but think of it this way- it is either going to waste in a trashcan or it is going to waste in your body. The best way to combat this is to get smaller portions and to not be afraid to package food up to take home! You will leave feeling satisfied, happy and have food to eat for a few upcoming meals.
