I hope your Thanksgiving was full of love ones, gratitude, and delicious food! This holiday season isn’t quite over, though. No matter what holiday you celebrate in December, there are cookies, cakes, candy, and every other dessert in between involved. This is what makes it my favorite month! In an effort to feel more positive about my snacking, I have experimented with some dessert swaps. I will give you a few examples to try yourself instead of cutting out these delicious treats!
- Berries can be transformed in so many ways to create some delicious desserts. Something as simple as a bowl of berries with a dollop of yogurt will satisfy that sweet tooth and deliver a load of nutrients. Try creating a trifle by layering blended berries, granola, and Greek yogurt in a dish.
- Another yummy and satisfying dessert for the cold weather is a baked apple with cinnamon and a little bit of maple syrup on top. You can either slice the apple up or keep it whole. Put the cinnamon and maple syrup on top and pop it in the microwave for 3 minutes. If you want an apple pie texture, try sprinkling granola on the plate.
- No bake oatmeal balls are a great cookie alternative that is packed with oats, chia seeds, coconut, peanut butter, and just a tad bit of sweetness from the chocolate chips. These balls are simple to make and fill you up with protein so you are inclined to eat less of them.
- I saved the most obscure example for last: flourless chocolate chip chickpea blondies. Yep, you read that right. There are chickpeas in this that replace butter. It sounds strange so I had to try it. It does not have the exact same texture as your favorite sugary snack does, but it does come pretty Give it at try to see what you think.
Desserts can be healthy and still be delicious. Experiment with these and recipes you find online to make a happy, healthy holiday season!
